We are pleased to welcome Scott Summit to present: “3D Printing for Humans: Medical,
Food and Space Applications.”
Newly available 3D printing tools
mean that many of the methods we’ve used to improve human lives through
development of prosthetics, casts, exoskeletons and more can be completely
reconsidered.
These new technologies lend
themselves not only to new approaches to problem solving, but also to new
business models that allow the integration of design, medicine and technology.
As a result of this, more meaningful and individualized solutions are being
created.
Summit will explore applications
where combinations of 3D printing and 3D scanning are applied, such as limb
loss, scoliosis and exo-skeletal robotics. Next-generation applications, such
as 3D printing in space, and the printing of food will also be discussed.
Scott Summit, Senior Director of
Design at 3D Systems, which acquired the company he founded, Bespoke
Innovations, in 2012, is a 3-time TEDx speaker. Summit’s designs have won
international recognition and his clients have included Apple and Nike.
Summit’s designs can be seen at the Cooper Hewitt Museum in NYC, where 10
products will be shown until May 2015.
The meeting will be on Monday, September 14th, 6-8
pm at Pizza on the Hill, in Tahoe Donner at 11509
Northwoods Blvd., Truckee. A $5 fee includes pizza and salad. Before and after
the presentation, there will be time for networking with other technology
professionals who live and work in the Tahoe-Truckee region.
