Many communities both have students looking for non-sports
after-school activities and are in need of a skilled labor force. Robotics
teams can solve these problems, while teaching young adults essential life skills,
including engineering design, business plan creation, marketing, public
speaking and more.
Kerry Thompson, Lead Mentor and Coach for a FIRST Robotics Competition
Team, has an M.S. in Physics, has been teaching science, math and engineering
for 25 years, and has been running robotics teams for 9 years.
She will talk to us about the Northern Nevada-based FYRE
5480 team she coaches and how they overcame funding challenges to travel and
compete while keeping participation free for all students.
You can learn more about the FIRST here: http://www.firstinspires.org/
